Homosassa 1/24 Finally a Gator!

Don and I chose today to jead out for the day on the bay. It looked like Thursday was to be the best day for us so off we went. The water temp started out at a chilly 58 degrees and very low tide. We worked the shallow stuff exclusively looking for some big girls. Today they were on but not in any real numbers but the quality more than made up for it. We picked away for 4 hours and bagged 4 over slot trout from 21 to 26 inches. the 26 incher was my best in a yearand she was fat and fought like a rdefish despite the cool water temps. Every overslot trout went back after a quick photo. We kept 5 trout all between 19 and 20 inches. There was a lot of life to be seen in the crystal clear low water including a ton of bait. By the time we packed it in the water temp in the real skinny stuff had risen to 62 degrees. Another excellent day on the Homosassa flats with my neighbor Don!

My best trout in a year I would call this one a gator

Nice looking trout. I was to go out with Doc today but my wife had appointments that I needed to attend.

Love the shot of the water. Winter low tides, with the clear water, is the best time for searching out places to fish in the future.

That looks like one of the spots you took us to when we went fishing with you... Only the water is about 3' lower! Man those are some low tides...

    Awesome fish btw. I'm jealous.

    Good job.

Kyle, that's one fine Gator. Hopefully those guys will be around in mid Feburary. 58 degree water temps seems warm for this time of the year. Usually I'm walking on water about this time.

Nice mess of fish. A 26 incher is a good fish on either coast.

It makes so much sense releasing the overs slot fish if they are not harmed. They seem to endure the battle much better and slot trout taste much better especially in the cool water months. If everyone released the overslot trout we might get a few of those 30" + gators over here on the west side.
