Homosassa 8/29 more hot Redfishing with Doc and Don

So when the bite is good it's hard to stay home. Plus it's always fun to put some friends on the hot bite so I had Don and Lee join me today. We finally found a few ladyfish and some decent trout so the bait was in the box by noon and it was off to the islands. A strong high tide along with overcast skys and rain on the way put the reds on the bite even better than yesterday. 21 reds came to the boat today and the best part was half of them were upper slot along with a couple overslot fish. The smallest was 22". Every island was producing reds as long as it had good flow and deep water near by. The reds were so thick that several were caught 50' from the shoreline. Don and Lee had a blast and actually got tired out from reeling in reds. W did take a short thunderstorm break and beached the boat on a covered dock for a few minutes. Redfishing is really on fire and should continue to improve over the next couplr months. We kept 2 reds that were hurt and a couple trout.

A triple
A double
A double in progress
Have you hugged your redfish today?

Kyle is getting this redfish thing down. Today was epic especially considering we only fished for reds for 3 hours and got interrupted by a rain delay. The size of most of those fish was impressive. Based on the number of multiple hook ups we got, they must be starting to school up before the move offshore. We also lost a good number of fish that cut us off on the rocks or just overpowered our gear. I lost a good one that I never got to see after he took me around the boat a couple of times and just headed back into the rocks. I was using the same rod that I caught the sailfish on back in June.

That was almost as much fun as fishing offshore. :wink

With 3 on board (Lee gets hung up too much in less than 50' of water) we used cut bait. But they are taking spoons and top waters too. I was skipping a pc of bait back to the boat to make another cast and my biggest red that day took the bait right off the top so they are chasing. We use 4/0 circle hooks to protect all the released fish. Most were hooked right in the corner of the mouth. I believe some came back for seconds!
