01/05/16 First trip of the new year. Out of redfish pass looking for snapper bite.

Weather and crew made getting a trip together a challenge. Well this trip came down to Tileman and me larrywitt . Run in the sound was great once outside of the pass it was a bumpy ride out to our first stop 50 plus feet. Set up on good bottom number, set out the chum bag, dropped our lines out, The show was good but the bite was slow. We also noticed the chum was going no where. Checked the tides on the GPS and it was at the bottom of a low tide bummer. We did put a couple of blue runners in the live well. We decided to put it out under a balloon. Then I hear Frank yelling as line was flying off the reel all he could do was hold on after multiple runs and trips around the boat we start to see color. This was not a small king!! There was no way we were going to try to land a green king this size before he was ready. Drag was set loose enough so he could run and not pull the hooks.

Had to cut his tail to fit him in the ice chest. Tileman was grunting to hold him up. LOL. Tileman now wants to try for another one, no way, one in the box this size is enough. Back to the snapper hunt. We went back to our first stop and by this time the tide was moving. The chum was going out in a steady stream, it was a steady bite on nice size lane snapper in no time we were close to our limit. Time to head in as the sun was getting low. It felt great to be on the water again.
Nice way to start the new year.
