2/21 Ft Myers Offshore - Red Grouper

Its been a while with this weather since my last report, plenty of trips to the keys and Bahamas. Decided to make the run with the good weather, caught some nice pins and blue runners in 50'. Around 75' was where we found nice blue water and headed out right to the edge of the 20 fathom mark. Current running against wind and the full moon we kept one decent AJ for the smoker. Made three stops for red grouper pulling in all 27" + fish. Biggest one weighed in at 18lbs. Fish were all caught on a carolina rig with 60 lb flouro. Did not see any schools of bait fish offshore, it is looking a little grim for when the thread-fin should be showing back up nearshore and the bridges.

Outstanding catch, thanks for the info. Did you get a water temp on the fishing grounds ? Super Bowl weekend, I was in about 100 FSW off Ft. Myers doing a vessel delivery to Tampa. Max water temp that I saw was 66 F off your area. Just curious about current water Temps in view of the 64.9 F that I saw off Venice yesyetday.

Water temp was jut at the 70.1 mark. We had a nice west south west current that pushed some cleaner water into that depth.

Thanks for the reply. Every little data point has the potential to contribute to a successful trip.
