7-13 Malabar Area Wading

I got home last night just before 8pm and decided to make a run down to the river to try and catch dinner. There was some bait action but not a whole lot. I threw topwater when I first got out there and got nothing so I switched up to a Rootbeer CAL and I found a Snook! ok maybe a Snooklet lol it was maybe 10" but a snook none the less. And then the bite really picked up.... the mosquito bite that is.... it was awful lol but I still toughed it out. I wasnt having any luck and it was very dark out so I tied the topwater back on and started wading back. I had my lure about 10' away from me and something hit it, and a miss. Twitched again and it got it! I recently switched to braided line and didnt find the little sitcky things in the pack until I had already lined my reel so of course, as Im fighting this fish my line starts rotating on the spool so I have to use my had on the line as drag. Being so dark out (and me without a light) I pulled the fish up on the shore and took a picture and the flash revealed my personal best 24"+ trout!

lol..... very nice work! The braid story had me lol. Still looking for my first snook. Got these nice trout om top water around that area. Nice rout on top water = :Grin

Damn! I think you out did me a little bit there lol But its my first topwater fish in that much darkness. After hearing about your luck with night time topwater, I had to try it out. And thats only my second snook this year, and the other one was just a little bigger than that one lol.

Nice trout! Love catching on top water, always a blast. I was fishing in pitch black a while ago off a small dock and about the last 10' on the retrieval I got a HUUUGE strike and it ran like a train. After a 15 minute fight I came up with a 30"+ Bluefish, crappy species but it's all catch & release so the fight was worth it. Usually always liked the Mirro Lures but the skitter walks have been doing pretty well for me lately

Nice guys!! I love topwater fishin'. It seems like the evening bite has really been producing this week, maybe the moon? I always have the best luck with Spooks. Keep the reports coming.
