Decided to take off work early last friday (like every friday :Rockon ) and take my girfriend and a buddy to drift the inlet. A lack of hooks, proper leader line and the innability to find bait in the hoards of brown muck flowing through the inlet left her with a rather large pin fish, small hook and 20lbs leader. The weather was less than desirable the whole ride down there and I was contemplating turning around... but it cleared up once the boat was in the water other than the 15kt winds.
We ancored and fished just inside the inlet while waiting for the incoming tide and had no luck. At the very end of the out going tide we started drifting through the inlet and continued through slack and about 20 minutes after the tide started running in she hooked up with what she though was a rock. When the drag started screaming way faster than we were drifting I told her to keep fighting and that it was definitely a fish! Aside from the cobia we caught a few months ago this was the biggest fight she has had. On her light rod it was a good battle!
This was the hook up we had that night. She was stoked!
