ok, just trying to figure something out.

I went from Gillette mach 3 to Hydro 5.

Razors are getting expensive. 4 pack is $13 bucks.

I usually shave 3-4 times then toss. I went for 5 shaves and tore my face up a little.

What are you guys using and how many shaves per blade are you getting?

I usually go several weeks on a mach 3 blade without trouble

about 20 shaves. I haven't bought a razor or blades in over a year.

I use the Hydro 5 and that's only because they were given to me. I can use a blade well past the life of the slime strip. Maybe around 30 shaves. I normally use Gillette Good News Plus disposable. They work just fine for me.

probably 3-4 months. I only shave every 2-3 days though.

From what I understand, the reason why razor blades quickly dull is because of microscopic imperfections on the edge due to corrosion (water being left on the blades). So, if you dry the razor immediately after use, say with a quick pass from a hairdryer, you will significantly lengthen the time between razor changes.

if you ladies would stop shaving your legs
and your junk, your blades would last much
longer

Couple of weeks... like said previously, dry the blade after use!

what loweboy doesn't mention is that he has hairy buttocks. you can't expect anything to last more than 2-3 on that mane. I use Mach3 and get plenty of shaves out of it, and I shave my head as well.

Going on about two years, a few strokes across the leather belt, a little oil after each use, and its like new.

I shave my face about every other day and shave my head once a week and the fusion blades last 3-4 weeks

Mach 3 about 8 weeks ... swish in alcohol and dry after each use ... I keep alcohol in a little Tupperware container ...

Get one of these and you will almost quit using a manual razor altogether. It's spendy, but it has a self cleaner that cleans it back to brand new every day after every shave. You can use it wet or dry, in the shower, with or without shaving cream. The key to this one is since it gets cleaned every day, it doesn't irritate your skin and the shave is every bit as good / close as a top notch normal razor.

Mach 3 as well and get maybe 6 shaves over 2 weeks or so. Going to try the drying thing, never knew. Publix only had their generic blades last time I bought some, picked them up thinking how bad can they be. Huge mistake, my face is still recovering and I now have a 3 week beard going. Wife hates it.

Seems lubrication is key to me

I found the solution. I just quit shaving. I get a hair cut once a month and have him trim it to the same length.

I read recently that if you dip the blade in alcohol after each use the life is substantially increased. If I was buying expensive blades it might be worth a try.
