Kayak - Beach Trip

We had bait all around us all day. We caught several kings to 12lbs. At about 8am or so we watched a sail fish tail dance across the water. It was quite a sight. As the day went on we got bit on just about anything we dropped. We got into some chicken dolphin and caught three. While this was going on my little brother jacked about a 15-18lb ling. I didnt bring a gaff and I couldnt get that joker in the yak to save my life. After a couple of trys he popped the hook.

15-18lb Ling is borderline 'legal' anyway, so maybe a good thing you didn't stick it... Nice trip though, Congrats ;)

Well......it was 36" as I had it yak side several times, weight was an estimate. I would of killed it if I had a gaff. Thanks:rolleyes

Those dolphin certainly aren't huge, but they are worth cleaning. I have been on boats that have gone much farther and killed smaller ones. Good job.

I have fished very little this summer (as in probably a record amount), but we got in a school of similar sized dolphin back in early August and picked a 45 lb ling off of that school about the same time that the dolphin school was shutting down. They'll cruise with just about about anything, won't they?
