We Pulled up a huge pig fish, some sailors choices etc. Then this thing hooked up on dead shrimp. It was almost dusk next to Millikans reef restaurant. It ran left then right and was so heavy it could not jump out of the water. It made a swirl just under the surface like a washing machine was just below it. I was not sure what it was yet untill I pulled it in closer with the 20 lb test rig on a diawa rod I was using. The leader was only 20 lbs as that was all we had. We had lost some fish on this stuff last couple of weeks and wanted to use something stronger.
The fish suddenly lost power and I got it within sight. I had to climb down on the seawall to try to lip it. Snap: the line broke. I had visions of it swimming away and frowned looking to kill. Then... my lady Francis said, "It's dead. It's laying there on the water." Seeing only 3 feet of water, I quickly jumped in all the way and grabbed it and threw it up. It was not dead and almost jumped out of the cooler later. The patrons at the bar cheered and thumbed up as they saw the battle! It measured at 30 inches on the nose. I bought a snook stamp last october and it came in handy once again. We fished untill around 9:30 pm and caught some huge gaftopsails and a big jack. So here is my report. The mullet run is cranking. Get out there and get you some! Tim
