I must have the wrong kinda boat cuz I went out Friday and couldn't buy a snapper! Maybe I had the wrong location. Wanna share?

We went Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and limited out each day on Snapper ranging from 10 to 19#. Also caught an assortment of Red Grouper, Porgys, B-Liners, Triggers, and of course some of the endangered Gags to be returned as well as the endangered Amberjack. The best weather to start the season an several years.

Where in the world did you go in the Gulf and not have to wade thru the Snapper, I need those numbers!!! Where are you fishing out of?

Launched at Panama City Marina at 7 AM with four souls aboard. Went about 9 miles and had an 8 fish Snapper limit by 830AM. Limited out so fast we had to caucus to decide what to do next. Decided to head out another 10 miles to natural bottom to try for Red Grouper. Ended up with four 12 to 15 pound Red Grouper and released another 10 or 12 large Red Snapper. Final count: Eight Red Snapper, four Red Grouper, One 15 pound King, one 15" Trigger, One one pound Red Pogey. Called it quits at 1PM. Had a scare as when we decided to head in the starter wouldn't kick in. Ended up pull starting the 225HP Mercury two stroke. Must say that the four stroke revolution has spoiled me. We were in a 24 foot Robalo, 225 two stroke merc and got about one mile to the galllon and burned about $200 in fuel. I get about six miles to a gallon with my Yamaha F90, 180CC, and could have made the same trip for under $50 in fuel. Not as comfortably of course.

Were you in the Gulf? We'd been out checking spots for weeks and released a lot of snapper over the weeks. We made it a point to only hit public numbers close to the beach and it got so monotonous with light bottom tackle that we started flylining them. Most of the spots we hit were in 70 some feet of water and within five miles of the Destin pass. We were consistently chumming them to the surface with just a handful of cut cigs and just flipping small cigs into the slick with spinning tackle. No leaders, weights, or anything. Just a 5/0 mutu light tied to the line. It's amazing watching a school of 6 to 12 pound snapper swimming around within gaffing distance of the boat. My buddy was using 30# spinning tackle and quite a few of them made it back to the bottom. On Wednesday there was a boat near us that wasn't catching anything but they were using wal-mart rigs and squid.(way too much hardware)
