Wednesday evening I decided to take my girlfriend wading with me, We got in the water around 740 and waded some docks. There was very little bait activity, but the big mullet were all over the place and kept launching themselves at her for the most part. lol We both got skunked but it was a pretty evening on the IRL with the sunset in the West, a rainbow to the south, and lightning in the distant East.

However, the most exciting part of the trip was when it was just getting dark and I saw something sticking out of the water up near the shore in less than a foot of water. We began to walk slowly toward it and then about 10' away I realized it was a manatee with half its back out of the water. I stopped and tried taking a picture but it came out really dark. So Im trying to adjust setting on the camera and I guess we spooked it because it started smackin its tail on the water and splashing 20' in the air and took off. Lesson learned. Do not approach things that weigh more than me.....I never thought Id be scared by a manatee lol What was it doing up there so shallow?

I tried lightening up the pic to the best of my Photobucket ability and circled the manatee lol

Not an expert, but I believe they get up real shallow to mate.

It could be mating...or it could be foraging. If that is where the best amount of good quality seagrass is...they will practicly crawl on their flippers (I've seen it) to get at it.
