I really didn't have time to go fishing this morning, but I was excited to try out my new Commander 140. Jeff Stuller had done a lot of work on it and I spent three hours at Estero River Outfitters yesterday working with Jeff on the details. These are shots in the shop just after completing it.
So Jimmy VanPelt and I met at Hickory Pass with the camera guy who was shooting video for a new fishing show we are doing. I really didn't think we would have any luck with my time constraints and pressure of being videoed while fishing. It took a while for me to rig up the new kayak, but I am already pleased with the layout. I am working with a couple of other kayak companies and I hope they have similar kayaks.
Soon after launching, Jimmy scored with a snook. Then another. Then another. He was on fire all day with the snook!
I was tossing DOA shrimp at the mangroves on the way to a favorite red spot when I got a suprisingly strong hit. I knew right away I had a red. I was pretty happy catching a nice fat redfish on my new Commander on it's maiden voyage.

I tried a little sight fishing for a while and slowed down the pace while Jimmy kept catching snook.
The thunderstorms were creeping closer so we decided to call it a morning. One note, at one point I cast a medium size pinfish under a mangrove and instantly was being pulled around by a very large redfish. I didn't get a good look, but he was massive! He spit the hook and bait both, and left me with the knowledge that he made me his *****! Next time red, next time...
